Know what you're buying

Pro coating vs. the spray can

"Ceramic" is printed on a lot of bottles now. Here's the honest difference, so you know which one you're shopping for.

Spray-on "ceramic"

  • Wiped over whatever is already on the paint, swirls and all
  • A thin topper that fades in weeks to a few months
  • Applied in a driveway, in the wind and dust
  • Nobody to call if it streaks or high-spots

Professional coating at our shop

  • Paint decon washed and clay barred before anything goes on
  • A hard, bonded layer rated for 1, 3 or 7 years
  • Applied and cured indoors in a clean, climate-controlled bay
  • A local shop in Rogersville you can drive back to

Is it right for you?

Who a coating is for

A coating is an investment in paint you plan to keep looking good. It's a great fit for some people and a waste of money for others. We'd rather tell you which one you are up front.

A great fit if

  • You just bought the vehicle, new or new to you, and want to keep the paint that way
  • You plan to keep it a few years or more
  • You're tired of waxing and want washing to take half the time
  • You care more about the job being right than being cheap

Probably not for you if

  • You're shopping for the lowest price in town
  • You're trading the vehicle in within a year
  • You want rock chip protection (that's paint protection film, which we also install)

How we do it

The prep is the job

A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so most of the time goes into the paint before the coating ever comes out.

  1. 01

    Decon wash

Foam and hand wash, plus iron and tar removal, so nothing is left sitting on the paint.

  2. 02

    Clay bar

Bonded grit pulled out of the clear coat so the coating bonds to paint, not dirt.

  3. 03

    Polish

A one-step polish to bring out the gloss and knock down light swirls. Included in the 3 and 7-year packages.

  4. 04

    Coat & cure

Applied panel by panel indoors, left to cure, then inspected under the lights before you pick it up.

Questions

Ceramic coating FAQ

Is this the same as the spray-on ceramic from the parts store?

No. Spray products are a topper that lasts weeks to a few months. A professional coating is a much harder layer that bonds to paint we've already decon washed and clay barred, and it's rated in years, not months.

Does ceramic coating stop rock chips?

No. A coating adds gloss, makes the paint easier to clean and resists light marring, but it won't stop a rock. Chip protection is what paint protection film (PPF) is for, and we install that too.

Is it worth coating an older vehicle?

Often, yes. A coating locks in whatever is underneath it, so older paint usually wants the polish step in our 3 and 7-year packages. We'll look at the paint and tell you honestly which one makes sense.

How much does it cost?

Packages start at $800 (1-year), $1,200 (3-year, with polish) and $1,500 (7-year, with polish) for smaller vehicles. Larger vehicles and add-ons like glass or wheel coating cost more.
